Leicestershire Fire and Rescue

This project was set by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and it was part of competition. I won the opportunity to have my work used by the fire service around Leicestershire. The brief was to come up with a campaign aimed at the elderly. These campaign posters are based around the idea of memories and what could be lost in a house fire.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

The book follows the story The Boy Who Cried Wolf, from the Aesop fable collection. It’s a 34 page hard back book which illustrates a childrens story through photography. It took six studio lights to achieve the lighting effect. The lights included two barn doors, one snoot, two soft boxes, a honeycomb and a reflector.

Minute- Intervention Book

This is an intervented book made out of a copy of the print on demand minute book. Each page has been cut into strips and looped over to represent the layers that are present at landfill sites. The birds also represent seagulls that are commonly found at these sites.

Minute- Traditional Book

This is the second book of the series. This book had to follow the same theme as the first but be in the traditional book format. The concept was to create new colourful imagery out of something as everyday as wrappers and packaging. Each image is accompanied by a statistic.

The images are macro photographs that have been cropped into a square and then reflected vertically and horizontally. Each cropped photograph appears 16 times in each image.

Minute-Experimental Book

The brief was to create an experimental book based on the term “minute”. The book follows the theme of time and how much rubbish the UK throws away every minute. The pages consist of photographs, statistics and is made up of a variety of materials which end up in landfill each day.

To make the pages for the book I collected all the wrappers and bits of paper that I would have usually have thrown away. There are crisp and sweet wrappers, pages from magazines, a piece of cardigan, envelopes, a plastic wallet, wrapping paper, cardboard and even a piece of umbrella canopy.
